Through our organization we provide the opportunity for singles to experience fun events, explore new areas of interest, and develop great camaraderie with friends, all originating from the Flathead Valley. We hope you enjoy as rich an experience as our fellow members of the Boomers have. Following are some typical questions newcomers ask about our group.
Who are the Boomers?
We're a singles group located in Montana's beautiful Flathead Valley, and our focus is on activities and making new friends. The list of activities is long and varied including great outdoor destinations that include both physical and casual events, as well as indoor gatherings that stretch our minds and provide wonderful opportunities to socialize with fun people! Our wide-ranging membership consists of folks primarily in their 40's and 50's (Baby Boomers), and we welcome anyone 40+ to join the group. The Boomers started in Dec. 1998 and continues to run with a fairly informal structure. A ‘steering committee’ functions as the leadership portion of the group and holds meetings prior to some monthly dinner meetings. Suggestions, ideas, issues, etc. are always welcome and considered by the committee.
What is the focus of the Boomers Singles Group? Activities! As varied as our members, they range from physical activities such as hiking, biking, skiing, kayaking, volleyball, etc., to cultural activities such as dining-out, dancing, concerts, theater, potlucks, cards/games nights, holiday parties, etc. The more active you are with us, the more fun you’ll have! All are welcome and we have something for EVERYONE!
When do the Boomers members meet? We have a Social Hour, Dinner & Planning Meeting from 6-9pm generally on the last Friday of each month. We encourage everyone to attend, and it’s a great first opportunity to get familiar with the group! We socialize, eat dinner & finalize planning of the next month’s calendar followed by dancing and/or games afterwards. The calendar planning results in 20-30+ activities scheduled per month. And, naturally, we meet at all of the planned events!
Where do I get information on upcoming activities? To join our email list, apply as a member on our website at http://www.flatheadsingles.org/. We regularly update our calendar on the site as well, so look for the latest information there. For those in the Flathead Valley, we provide copies of our calendar at Chamber of Commerce offices in Bigfork, Columbia Falls, Kalispell, Lakeside/Somers & Whitefish. We sincerely thank these Chamber offices for providing this information.
How do I attend an activity? Sign up on activity sheets at the monthly meeting and please call the host to confirm (RSVP) 2-4 days prior to attending the activity. If you didn’t attend the meeting, please RSVP with the event host as soon as possible. The host will provide the information you need to know for the event. If you cannot make the event after signing up, please be courteous and let the host know if you cannot attend.
Can I host an activity? Just volunteer! New hosts are welcome, as well as new ideas for activities. It can be as simple as arranging for a group to meet at a theater for a movie! We encourage participation from everyone, and there are many members willing to assist you in hosting – we want you to have a great hosting experience!
How do I join the group? For membership, we invite you to explore the activities of our group, including the monthly planning meetings. If you like what you find, we ask that you become a member within the first three months. Our dues are $24 per year, due when you join and subsequently on your anniversary date. Dues help cover ongoing expenses such as ads, copying, paper, cards, supplies, etc, as well as special events that may be sponsored by the group.
